산모퉁이 is another restaurant I tried when I visited Sokcho area as mentioned in this post. This is another local Korean restaurant in Bongpori, a village outside of Sokcho. Sanmo Tungee is a decent-sized restaurant; it’s a very circular restaurant due to the building’s shape. The shape aside, I can see this place being great for groups. They offer two types of seating — for those who like to sit and eat on the floor and those who like to sit at a regular dining table with chairs. I appreciated having the dining table option! As for the service, the place was ran by an older couple, and they treated me well. I didn’t have any issues with them.

Menu-wise, they sell three dishes and soju and beer. They don’t have a lot of variety, but I didn’t mind at all because I figure that allows them to focus on those three dishes. The three dishes are 8,000 won each, and they are chueotang (mudfish stew), chueo kalguksu (mudfish hand-cut noodles), and donkkaseu (Korean donkatsu). The soju and beer costs 3,000 won each.

I ordered their donkkaseu and it came with the cutlet with sauce, coleslaw, corn, beans, rice, and other banchans! I have to say that the donkkaseu tasted very similar to the one I tried at 101 Bunji Namsan Donkkaseu. The two donkkaseu are actually priced the same, but I feel like I got more for my money with Sanmo Tungee because they offered more varieties of banchans, which also tasted better. I really liked their moo moochim (marinated radishes). Their kongnamul (bean sprouts) were excellent, and I don’t even like kongnamul that much!

If I ever go back to Bongpori, I’d like to return here. I really liked the donkkaseu meal and the banchans. I stumbled upon this place online when I was going through my pension hotel’s website, and this was one of the local places they’ve listed. I’m glad I found it! Eating that meal after my adventure at Seoraksan was worth it!

From Sokcho, it’s about a ten-minute bus ride (on 1 or 1-1) from Sokcho Intercity Bus Terminal. After you get off at the bus stop named “Bongpori”, face the sea and go up the main street on your right. When you reach the CU Mart, cross the street and head up the side street. Follow down that road until you reach a four-way intersection and make a right and you will upon a smaller intersection. Keep going straight, and you will come to a bigger street. Cross that and then go uphill a bit and Sanmo Tungee will be on the left. The main landmark is the Bongpo Church, which is next to the restaurant. The walk from the bus stop is about 8 minutes.
